Customer churn counts departing accounts, while revenue churn counts the value they took with them. The two can diverge sharply. Losing several of your smallest clients and losing one large retainer produce very different revenue outcomes from the same customer churn figure, so any serious view of retention looks at both. Where existing customers expand their spending, that growth is netted against losses to give a fuller picture.
Churn is a lagging indicator of something that went wrong earlier. Common causes include a weak start to the relationship, a client who was never a good fit being sold to anyway, slow or inconsistent communication, and value that quietly stops being visible. Departure interviews are uncomfortable and almost always worth doing, because the reason given is usually specific and fixable.
For professional service firms, responsiveness is one of the retention levers most within your control. Clients who get quick, consistent answers to routine questions rarely leave over communication, and the departure conversations above will tell you whether that is where your losses actually come from.

- Conversion rate optimization (CRO)Conversion rate optimization (CRO) is the systematic practice of increasing the percentage of website visitors who complete a desired action, such as submitting a form, booking a call, or making a purchase. It combines behavioural research, hypothesis-driven changes, and measurement to improve results from existing traffic rather than buying more of it.
- Form abandonmentForm abandonment is when a visitor begins interacting with a web form but leaves the page before submitting it. Because the submission never arrives, the business has no record of the enquiry and no way to follow up.
- Landing PageA landing page is a standalone web page built around a single action, such as requesting a quote or booking a call. Unlike a homepage, it removes competing choices so the visitor has one obvious next step.
