- You have at least one person whose job includes answering customer messages all day.
- Your customers are logged-in users and you need to see account context next to the conversation.
- You need ticketing: assignment, statuses, SLAs, escalation paths, a manager watching the queue.
- You want in-product messaging, onboarding tours, or lifecycle campaigns as well as chat.
- You have the appetite to configure it properly, and someone who will own that configuration.
None of that is a criticism. It is a description of a real and common business shape. If it is yours, a lightweight widget will feel thin and you should buy the platform.
What a small service business usually actually needs
Now the other shape. You run a dental practice, a law firm, a plumbing company, a clinic, an agency. Your website gets a modest but real amount of traffic. Almost none of those visitors call. A few fill in the contact form. The rest read half a page, do not find the answer to a specific question, and go back to search results.

Answer quality. Open the demo and ask it three awkward questions a real customer would ask. Not the easy one from the marketing page. Ask about a niche service, ask about price, ask something the site does not cover. Watch whether it invents an answer or admits the limit. A tool that makes things up will embarrass you in front of customers.
